New iPhone SE 2020

by George Lovell | | 0 comments

Apple have just released their second iPhone SE (Special Edition). This will be available for £419.00-£569.00, so is a cheaper alternative to the 11, XS & XR.

According to it's specs, we'd say it's best described as an iPhone 8 with a better rear camera and faster processor.

From looking at early teardowns, it's constructed just like the iPhone 8 - just as the original SE was when compared to the iPhone 5S. It could be that some of the components are compatible/interchangeable.

This is good news, as we've found the iPhone 8 to be the most reliable model. It's also a switch back to LCD screens, which are significantly cheaper to replace.

From seeing the teardowns, and with the timing of this release, it suggests to us that this was a strategic move by Apple to save money on components that they've been manufacturing for the last few years.

Lazy Repairs

by George Lovell | | 0 comments

No-one ever got great results from being lazy.

Here's 4 common ways that repair shops cut corners on the basic repairs:

1. Failure to remove residual adhesive, re-shape and file corners on the housing or frame.
This results in a poor fit, increased susceptibility to damage and may cause components to separate over time.

2. Skipping post-repair checks.
It's important to fully test a device after repair, to ensure that everything is working, aligned and connected.

3. Not transferring non-essential components over.
Too often do we see plates and screws left out, and foam pads missing off connectors. Every single bit inside a device is in there for a reason, and failure to put them back can have an impact on performance and functionality. We have heaps of spare screws, components and discarded devices to harvest little bits from.

4. Not replacing non-essential adhesive and gaskets.

A lot of devices will work perfectly well without some of the adhesive that was originally holding it together. A water-resistant device that has been damaged or opened will never again have a fresh-out-the-factory seal... but applying new adhesive and keeping the rubber gaskets will ensure it fits nicely and is better protected against water and dust. We have a collection of different tapes and glues, and they all have their place.

Fighting The Pandemic With Innovation

by George Lovell | | 0 comments

The coronavirus pandemic has disrupted peoples lives and daily routines across the world. With redundancies, furloughs and forced closures of businesses and schools, many people and Company's are struggling or at the very least are uncertain about where they will stand in a weeks time, let alone in 3 months time! Change is hard, especially when thrust upon us so suddenly at such large-scale.

Innovation leads the way right now.
> Companies such as Dyson are working round the clock to manufacture ventilators for patients, with a new batch coming into UK hospitals next week
> Many perfume companies have converted their factories to manufacture and supply hand sanitiser for hospitals - for free.
> Companies and their staff are creating home working solutions to enable parents to continue working and earning whilst caring for their kids. > Supermarkets have adapted their stores to allow customers to shop more safely, and have implemented special opening hours to prioritise the elderly and NHS workers.
> Cafes and restaurants have switched from eat-in locations to food delivery services overnight, including our local Cafe Marina UK
@burratapizzaco who are keeping the people of Portishead nourished from the safety and comfort of their own homes.

No doubt these measures will help "flatten the curve", save lives, and speed up our economic recovery.

Our processes have been altered but out value propositions remain the same. We've adapted our current operations to continue serving our customers as best we can under such drastically different circumstances. We've closed the shop but are still operating via a drop-off/collection & return service and mail-in service, which can all be booked through our website.
We welcome any and all feedback and ideas on what else we can do during this time - send us a message!

We're also focusing our energy on building for the future, and so would greatly appreciate any feedback on what you'd like to see us do and how we can improve. You can leave us feedback here: https://talkbackcomms.com/pages/leave-feedback

Farewell To A National Icon & Valued Customer

by George Lovell | | 0 comments

Such sad news to hear that our friend and legendary comedian Eddie Large has tragically lost his battle with Coronavirus.

Eddie and his family, who live in Portishead, have been good customers of ours for many years.

Eddie was always sharp and full of enthusiasm, and would always share some cracking jokes and stories with us. He'll be missed, and our thoughts are with his family and friends right now.

Eddie dominated BBC television during the 80's. Here's an old clip we want to share of Eddie doing what he did best: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T1WaXeIvDTs

Hopefully this will provide some laughs and bring back some positive memories for many.

RIP ❤️

Helping People With Technology - Pandemic Or Not

by George Lovell | | 0 comments

Day 3 of project COVID: The sun is out and we're keeping busy!🌞 Our drop-off and return system is allowing people to get their devices repaired same-day with zero physical contact, including one elderly lady who's phone had died and was left unable to access her community WhatsApp group or speak to family and friends.

You can submit an appointment request by filling out our dedicated bookings form: https://talkbackcomms.com/pages/covid-bookings

We are still able to source a majority of parts, and are well stocked up on most items, including basic Nokias and pay as you go SIM cards, which have been in high demand for customers that want a spare phone for their elderly parents.

The shop is closed, with one person locked inside, so that we can continue to work and provide our services whilst self-isolating. Everything that comes through or goes out of our door is systematically cleaned and sanitised.

If you need some help or advice with something simple, just give us a call, email or live chat and we'll try and get it sorted together.
