Time To Lockdown

by George Lovell | | 0 comments

It was announced last night that the UK is in partial-lockdown.

Firstly, we wish you the best and hope you're all safe, well and prepared. We think that the actions being taken are very much needed, and should have been implemented sooner.

We hope that people will take responsibility for themselves and others, and comply with government advice.

Businesses selling non-essential goods and services have been ordered to closed, and people instructed not to leave their homes unless absolutely necessary. This leaves many of us in a bit of a grey area, with regard to what is considered essential and what exactly warrants necessary travel. A summary of these new restrictions can be seen here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/explainers-52010555

Our primary business is repairs. We can't work from home. People need working phones. Are communications considered essential? It hasn't been made clear. It seems that about half the companies that we work with or are in the same or a similar industry are still open as of today.

For us, we will continue to operate as long as we are willing and able to, without contributing to the problem or increasing any persons risk. We are currently planning out exactly how we will do this, and objectively assessing whether we can at all.

We are here and somewhat open today, to tie up loose ends, speak to customers and suppliers, and put a plan of action in place; which we will announce later. This will likely involve a drop-off/collection & return only system to eliminate social contact entirely. Please do not visit our store today unless we have given authorisation.

Whilst we've been preparing for this since January, It's very important that we dedicate our full care and attention to getting these plans correct, reviewed and tested before implementing them, and ask that you be patient with us and other businesses in similar situations whilst we do this in ever-changing circumstances.

Of course, a stricter lockdown will force us to close all operations entirely. If we are asked to close, we will close immediately.

Schools Closed For 8+ weeks... Enter Home-learning.

by George Lovell | | 0 comments

Schools have online platforms and resources in place for remote teaching and lessons, and many teachers will be relying on students being able to login to their school website/intranet system to communicate and exchange information.

We've already seen demand for iPads & iPad repairs in response to schools closing.

We've stocked up on iPad 5's and iPad Air 2's, as these are popular, reliable and up to date - meaning they're compatible with all current apps and software. They're also much more affordable than the newest models, such as the iPad 7, Air 3 or Pro models.

Helping The Community Amid The Pandemic

by George Lovell | | 0 comments

With over 70's and the vulnerable being advised to self-isolate over the coming weeks, and a full-scale lockdown an ever-increasing possibility, we are doing what we can to do our bit in the community:

> Free 1st class return postage for uncollected devices.
> Free collection and/or return on repairs for Portishead residents, as and when we can.
> Some of our elderly customers have needed a spare basic mobile phone and SIM Card, or spare charger. We can post these to you.
> If you're over 70 or have a friend or relative that can't leave the house and needs some food or supplies picking up, we'll try and help. Please don't be afraid to ask.

Any opportunity to do something easy that helps someone a lot is always a must.

The sense of community in the area at the moment is uplifting and inspiring, and is precisely what we need at the moment. Gratuity and empathy go a long way in the community.

To local businesses taking necessary precautions and measures to continue to operate and provide, we greatly appreciate what you're doing. Continue to double down on what you can do.

Apple & Carphone Warehouse Closing Stores

by George Lovell | | 0 comments

It's the Apple-ocalypse!☢️ Apple have elected to close down all their stores worldwide for a minimum of 2 weeks in order to protect staff, customers and to help slow down the spread of the virus. Apple have 38 stores across the UK.
The only locations that will remain open are the stores in China, which re-opened recently. This is because new cases are now slowing in China, but continue to grow across the rest of the world.

Most Apple stores as well as many mobile phone and technology outlets are based in busy locations such as shopping centres, which the public are being advised to avoid.

We are fortunate to be based in an isolated unit within a fairly quiet area, meaning we're a low risk location compared to similar stores.

We are open and continuing to provide: > Mobile phone, tablet, laptop repairs & services > Pre-owned & refurbished phone & tablet sales > Recycling service - We buy devices, new, used, working or broken > Accessory sales - Cases, chargers, power banks and other tech essentials

Visit our store or contact us for alternative solutions: https://talkbackcomms.com/pages/visit-our-store

Carphone Warehouse have announced that they will be closing all 531 of their stores on April 3rd!

The Dixon group will continue to sell phones out of Currys PC World stores, and online.

2900 redundancies have been made, with 1800 being offered or allocated new roles within the organisaton.

Phones Are Filthy - Even On The Inside 🤮

by George Lovell | | 0 comments

Your phone has approximately 25,000 germs per square inch, and 18x more bacteria than a public bathroom. Not surprising considering we hold our phones all day, leave them on desks and floors, and never clean them... Picture every thing you've touched so far today, and imagine your phone as a petri dish containing traces of all those things, mingling and thriving in your pocket ☢️

Tips:
- Clean your phone with anti-bacterial wipes. Every device that comes through our doors gets Dettol wiped 💥
- Don't put your phone on public tables, seats or surfaces
- Wash your hands regularly to minimise transfer of germs from your phone to your face
- Consider skipping bathroom texting & scrolling - Don't lick your phone screen

Don't feel like leaving the house at the moment? We're prepared and equipped for this. Use our express mail-in repair service or local collection & delivery service to get your phone repaired from the safety of your home: https://talkbackcomms.com/pages/repairs
