TomTom repair - let's talk Sat Nav

by George Lovell | | 0 comments

A few Sat Nav's in for repair recently, including this TomTom with a broken charging port.

These are far less common than they were in the 2000's, because more cars have built-in navigation, and every smartphone has free access to Google Maps and Waze; which provide real-time traffic updates and road information. A Sat Nav can also provide traffic updates, but requires an internet connection.

Advantages of using a Sat Nav are:
> Large display and loud audio
> GPS apps consume your phone battery and mobile data allowance
> Keeping your phone connected to Bluetooth without disruption or complications

It seems difficult to justify having a Sat Nav if you have a smartphone, but it comes down to personal preference.

A better option for MacBook screen repairs

by George Lovell | | 0 comments

We replaced a cracked screen on this MacBook Pro with a used original display, which had been recycled from a dead MacBook.

This made for a very quick, easy and cost-effective repair.

This is a great option, especially for older MacBooks, where new screens are scarce, expensive and sometimes poor quality.

Apple have also released 2 new iPads

The iPad 9 (pictured) sees the usual small upgrades and improvements across the board, and remains a great value option for 95% of tablet users that don't require the bells and whistles that come with the premium models.

The iPad Mini 6 has received some fairly powerful upgrades. It now has 4GB of RAM, and uses the same A15 bionic chip as the iPhone 13. It also has a fingerprint scanner built into the power button, and a USB-C port instead of lightning.

Apple have also updated the design on the Mini to match their newer devices such as the iPad Pro. This means a thicker, more rounded bezel and larger display.
