FAQ: General 

We continue to operate as usual. You do not need an appointment.  Opening times remain the same, and we are buying, selling and repairing devices.

We have PPE in place. 

A maximum of two people are allowed in-store at any time.

Please wear a face covering and use the hand sanitizer provided.

Do not visit our store if you or anyone that you have been in close contact with has recently tested positive for COVID-19 or you suspect there's any chance that you have it.

As a repair centre, we are authorised to continue operating and offering our services in accordance with current government guidelines. We have been fortunate and grateful to continue working throughout COVID.

We have a retail shop & repair centre. If you are local to us, you can visit our store. We offer the same services in-store that we do online, no appointment required.

We are based in Kestrel Court on Harbour Road in Portishead. We are 0.2 miles up from Waitrose and 0.1 miles up from Subway. Look out for Pure Offices - Kestrel Court. We're situated on the balcony, which is on the left as you drive in.

Parking is free. We have a lift for disabled access.

We have Portishead's best Café right next to us. We have a lounge with food and drink machines & TV in Pure Offices reception. It's a 2 minute walk to: Sainsburys, Lidl, Home Bargains, Waitrose, Subway, Weatherspoons, Aqua, Bottelinos, Parish Wharf Leisure Centre and Portishead Marina.

Established in 1989, Talkback Comms is an iTechnician approved repair centre & retail shop. The shop is open to the public and specialises in the repair of damaged and faulty mobile phones, tablets and laptops.

FAQ: Buy a Device

We specialise in the sale of pre-owned Apple iPhones, iPads & Samsung phones. Our devices are premium quality, excellent value, and come with a warranty. 

These products are available online and in-store. You can view our stock here.

We also sell a range of basic phones in-store, such as a basic SIM-Free Nokia, and Big Button Phone for the elderly.

Yes, our phones and tablets come with a 6-month warranty. Our technicians thoroughly test our devices to ensure that they're in perfect working order. Read about our warranty here.

We check the battery capacity as part of our testing checklist. An iPhone battery must be at 90-100% capacity to meet our criteria - this is expected to perform reliably for at least 12 months. If the battery does not meet our testing criteria, we fit a brand new one.

If a battery fails or performs inadequately during the warranty period, we will replace it for you.

Yes! We'll transfer your data, setup your new device and buy your old one.

We'll do this as two separate transactions, rather than part exchange.

FAQ: Sell a Device

We buy most current smartphones and tablets such as iPhones, iPads and Samsung devices. We buy them new, used, working, broken or faulty.

Sell a Device

It depends on manufacturer, model, network, condition and faults. We quote on a case-by-case basis, and we pay significantly more than other recyclers on average.

We give quotes as estimates. We need to inspect and test the device before we can buy it - see our Terms & Conditions.

You can post your device to us, or visit our store.

We will need your bank details for payment, and a form of ID. You must erase all data and accounts.

We cannot buy a device that still has your data on it. If you're local, and you cannot erase your data due to the device being damaged, drop it down so that we can fix it. Then we can erase the device and make payment.

We pay via bank transfer. We pay same-day in most cases.

We will need your bank details for payment, and a form of ID.

We need to inspect and test the device before we can buy it - see our Terms & Conditions.

We work on phones, tablets, laptops, smartwatches, iPods, consoles and more. We do screen repairs, battery replacements, liquid damage treatment, data recovery, logic board diagnostics, microsoldering, network unlocking and anything else you need.

If your device has multiple faults, we may offer a multi-repair discount.  In a lot of cases, we will need to book the device in for inspection before we can confirm the cost of repair. A technician will contact you to confirm a price and discuss your options.

Price will vary depending on cost and availability of parts, and the complexity of work required.   

Repairs & Services

It depends on the particular device, repair required and time that it is dropped in. We know how important your device is to you, and we strive to make the repair process as efficient and convenient as possible. We offer an express turnaround - most repairs are done within an hour.

Most iPhone repairs are almost always completed in less than an hour. Most Samsung & Huawei repairs are completed in 1-2 hours. Most iPad repairs are completed in 2-4 hours. Most laptop repairs and computer services are completed within 1 day. Logic board repairs, liquid damage treatment, data recovery and other advanced services may take a few days to complete.

For sealed devices and components, we fit strips of tape to hold the parts in place whilst they set, so that you can collect it sooner.

We will give an estimate as to when your device is going to be ready. We will contact you as soon as it is complete. Please provide a contact number or email address.

We keep a lot of parts in stock, such as iPhone, iPad and Samsung screens, batteries and charging ports. If we don't have the parts needed in stock, we can order them in for next working day, and get the repair booked in when we have them; so you're not without your device for too long.

For mail-in repairs, the time-scales are the same; plus postage times (usually 1 working day each way). We'll repair and dispatch the device back to you the day that we receive it in most cases.
 
If you're in desperate need of a device whilst yours is in for repair, check out our loan phone service.

We will need the following:

  • The device (obviously).
  • Your name
  • Contact details - to let you know when it's ready, or in case a technician needs to speak to you.
  • Device pass code - for testing before and after repair.
  • Description of fault(s) and additional details - provide information that will assist us with repair, describe how and when faults occur, and device history.
  • Confirmation that you understand and agree to our Terms & Conditions.
  • Payment upon collection for in-store customers, or before dispatch for mail-in repairs.

We may need the following:

  • Your address - only required for collection and return & mail-in repair.
  • The SIM card or charger - If the fault specifically relates to the SIM/network or charging the device.
  • Account details and passwords - If we are doing data transfer, data recovery or device setup.

Repairs & Services

Most likely. Batteries are consumable components, which means that they will degrade over time. We do tons of battery replacements, especially for iPhones  - which typically need a new battery ever 2-3 years.

However, there are a number of other faults that can cause your battery to drain quickly. Be sure to let our technicians know if your phone gets hot or has other performance issues.

If it is an iPhoneiPad or Samsung, you can view and purchase the repair through our website. If its a different manufacturer or you can't find the repair you need, contact us for a quote first.

Fill in the Repair Sheet & enclose it with the device. We can provide a shipping label, or you can send it via your own means.

You don't need an appointment to get your device repaired during our opening times, but you're welcome to book or contact us to make arrangements that suit you.

Repairs & Services

Some repair centres erase the device before repair. We do not erase the device before repair. In most cases, there is no reason as to why you should lose any data or information on your device.

Advanced services and logic board repair are subject to an increased degree of risk and complexity, which may affect data.

Please note that we do not take responsibility for the loss of any data and suggest backing up your device beforehand if you're concerned about losing your data. Refer to the manufacturers website for information on how to do this.

Repairs & Services

We source and fit the best quality parts available. We are constantly testing and refining our parts and procedures.

Some manufacturers sell genuine service pack components, which are identical to your original components. Other manufacturers do not. We source genuine, OEM or high quality compatible parts from various suppliers.

We offer two options on iPhone screen replacements - Original or High Quality Compatible. Read more about these screens here.

We like to be transparent, and provide our customers with the information that they need. Speak to a technician for more information on your repair.

Most repairs come with a 12-month warranty. See our Terms & Conditions for more information.

Unfortunately we do occasionally get faulty replacement components. This is a reality that all repair centres have to deal with. Any replacement components we fit are of very high quality, fitted with care by a skilled technician, and fully tested before being returned. We take the necessary steps to reduce the likelihood of you having a problem with a replacement screen, battery etc.

If you do develop an issue with a replacement part whilst its in warranty, we will make getting it rectified a priority. This usually requires having the part replaced.

Most repairs come with a warranty as standard. You can see more information regarding what's covered under warranty and for how long in our Terms & Conditions.

All repair centres require the customer to provide access to their device or supply the pass code.

Our technicians need to test your device before and after repair. We cannot test new or existing components without access to the device. If we do not have access, we cannot give a warranty on the repair.

We will never access or store your personal data. You can back up and erase the device before handing it in for repair if you'd prefer. 

Generally we do not need any of these items. We just need the device fully intact with all its parts. 

If the fault specifically relates to the SIM/network or charging the device, then we may need these items.

Yes, we do liquid damage repairs all the time.

See our dedicated liquid damage page, don't try to charge it, don't put it in rice, and get it to us ASAP.
No. Once a device has been damaged, opened, or repaired, it has permanently lost water resistance. We will take all necessary steps to fully seal the device, but do not guarantee equivalent protection to that of the original factory seal. We advise keeping your device away from liquid exposure.
We don't offer an insurance service.

FAQ: Payment, Prices, Discounts & Accounts

All prices are as they appear. Repair prices include VAT & fitting. All pre-owned devices are sold on the margin scheme, so there is no VAT to pay.

If you need a VAT receipt, just ask.

For website orders: You will pay via PayPal. You do not need to have a PayPal account - just continue as a guest with your card details.

In-Store: We accept cash or card.

For business customers: We accept cash, card, bank transfer or payment on account.

For anything else: We can take a card payment over the phone.

We do not accept American Express.

Business and trade accounts get discounts on all of our services.

If your company is registered for Talkback Plus, employees can redeem a £5.00 discount on iPhone & iPad repairs.  

NHS Staff, Blue Light Card holders, Avon & Somerset Police and Avon Fire & Rescue can redeem a £5.00 discount on iPhone & iPad repairs.

FAQ: Talkback Tips

If your device says that it is disabled, and to try again in 1 minute, this is because the incorrect pass code has been entered 5 times.

Performing a factory reset will erase all content and data, so make sure you back up or save anything that you don't want to lose.

You'll need to perform a factory reset if you are going to sell your device. 

You may need to perform a factory reset to fix a software issue. 

You will be asked to enter your passcode to confirm that you want to erase your device. You may also be asked for your Apple ID, Samsung account or Google account password. This is a security feature that prevents people from erasing and selling stolen devices.
