Shout out to our customer of the year - a father of two; who had 29 repairs done, including 20 screen replacements, and who also bought 4 iPhones for good measure!😅
Thousands of repairs completed in 2021 - 65% of which on iPhones.
79% of the UK population and 89% of adults use a smartphone - the 2nd highest in the world. 54% of UK smartphones are iPhones.
Why so many iPhone repairs? The components are generally more prone to failure, and everyone in Portishead uses an iPhone.
We check touch calibration, multi-touch, brightness and display.
We offer 3 screen options on the following iPhone models: X, XS, XS Max, 11 Pro, 11 Pro Max.
This is because the budget option is an LCD screen, as appose to an OLED screen. Whilst cheap, it's an inferior option. Our original refurb screens are the highest quality option available, but they come at a price. Our middle option is a Soft OLED, which is a high quality aftermarket screen. This is a really good value option for most people.
So many choices... What to go for? It depends on your budget, how much you use your phone and what for, how long you plan on keeping the phone, and how likely you are to break it again.
2021 has been and gone. January was four months ago, and we skipped Autumn all together. It's difficult to contemplate the speed at which time is passing by.
It's been over a year since the UK vaccine rollout, 14 months since the presidential election, 28 weeks since the start of the Euros...
The Earth is spinning on its on its axis more quickly than it has done in decades. Therefore, the days are a bit shorter this year - about 0.05 milliseconds per day to be precise.
Then there's the fact that the years go by faster as we get older. At 10, a year is 10% of your life. At 50, it's just 2%. Things also tend to become more routine and predictable, and we have less novel experiences. We discard more and more information because it's not unique. This can lead to time feeling like it has accelerated.
Or perhaps the ongoing pandemic has altered our perception of time, causing the days and weeks to blend together in a blurry and monotonous routine. This in contrast with 2020, which was an ongoing and seemingly never-ending storm of events that upended everyone's lives, for better or worse.
It was short, but we've enjoyed it.
Best wishes to all of our friends and customers that have enabled us to keep going for yet another year! 🙌❤

Special shout out to the massive queue of people outside the Butchers Block every morning this week.
Expecting a quiet day at Talkback today. Phones are a pretty significant/main gift - rarely a last-minute purchase. A lot of people getting their children's phones and iPads repaired for Christmas this year. Don't know if this is something that gets wrapped and put under the tree..?
Headphones and charging cables can snap off inside the ports. This is much more common with tablets than phones, because the device is heavier. If you drop it whilst it's plugged in, there's a good chance that this will happen.
We don't have music playing in the shop. Instead, we sing the same 3 Christmas carols over and over relentlessly for 9 hours whilst working - or until 1PM today.

Supply chains permitting, Santa is making his final preparations for his journey around the world delivering presents. He's got his vaccine passport, a vast range of boosters, and no level of government restrictions are going to stop him from dropping quality, refurbished SIM-free iPhones down the soot-filled, (hopefully not lit), chimneys of Portishead residents.
Here's our holiday opening times. Out of hours appointments available.
The holidays fall on the weekend this year, so we've got 3 bank holidays on the 27th, 28th and 3rd.
Whatever this time of year means to you, be grateful and make the most of it ❤️
