Couple Of Dodgy Repair Jobs

by George Lovell | | 0 comments

Had this iPad in dead after screen replacement from another shop...

Battery disconnected, all screws missing, power button missing, home button broken and pry damage on logic board and antennas... Not going any further down this rabbit hole 🙄

Very sad attempt from a "repair business". This leaves a customer out of pocket and tarnishes the independent repair industry ️😒

Then...

Dead iPhone booked in for inspection...

Lots of bits missing, but at least there's plenty of toilet paper on the battery 🤷‍♂️

New one on me 🤔

If you're struggling to find toilet paper in your local supermarkets, give the phone repair shops a call 😂

New MacOS Causes Outrage Over Privacy Concerns

by George Lovell | | 0 comments

MacOS 11 Big Sur offers increased performance, improved energy efficiency and a sleek, refreshed design.

It's also tracking everything you do, every app you open, and when and where you are when you open it, before sending this data to a third party unencrypted.

A great feature that will enable Apple to prevent you from using any app that they don't want you to use, and to pass on sensitive data to government agencies.

Oh, and if you use Little Snitch or a VPN for privacy, Big Sur can bypass your firewall.

Another Nail In The Coffin For Right To Repair...

by George Lovell | | 0 comments

Apple have really upped their money-grabbing business malpractice this year, and they're back at it again 😡

A recent teardown shows that the new iPhone 12 camera module is paired to the logic board, meaning it cannot be replaced when damaged or faulty - which will be a common occurrence due to their fragile design.

Yet again, the giant manufacturer attempts to drive independent repair out of the market, and what was once a £30.00 repair, is now an £800.00 replacement phone.

This highlights the importance of the right to repair movement. It seems that consumers no longer own the electronic products that they buy, and are merely leasing it for an excessive price.

Taking the fight to giant corporations is always an uphill struggle, especially when that corporation is perhaps the largest and most powerful of them all 😪
