iPhone Repairs: Choosing Correctly & Things To Consider

Correctly diagnosing the fault with your device can save a lot of time. We recommend reading the information below to help ensure your selecting the repair/service that you need. We've also included some key points & things to consider for certain repairs. Be sure to read about the repair/service you are thinking of ordering.

My Device Has Multiple Faults

Screen Replacement (Glass & LCD)
Select this repair if the external glass is cracked, touch screen is not working properly and/or the display is damaged. If the device appears to be on, i.e. it rings and makes noises, but there is no display, the LCD is broken and will require replacing.

Battery Replacement
If your battery life is insufficient or not as good as it was, a new battery should fix the issue. You should be able to get approximately one days use from your iPhone with moderate use. Battery life does often deteriorate around 2-3 years from new, though it can be sooner.
Note: It is highly recommended that you let a new replacement battery drain to 10% or less, then charge it fully to 100% uninterrupted for 6 or more hours. You should do this for the first two charges in order to obtain optimum performance from the new battery. It may discharge fairly quickly during the first use.
Note: Use of non-genuine and unregulated charging cables, plugs & accessories can reduce the life expectancy of your battery, and even cause additional, terminal damage to the logic board. Use the original charger provided by the manufacturer for best results.

Charging Port
If your device fails to take a charge then it could be a fault with the charging port (where the cable plugs in to). If the device wont charge, or charges intermittently, then a replacement charging port is required. If there is some indication of charge going in but the device will not power on, it may be a battery fault.
Note: The charging port assembly on iPhone 5 & up is connected to the microphone used during calls and your audio jack. If either of these are faulty in addition to your charging port, you need only pay for one.

Audio Jack
If you cannot hear anything with headphones plugged in to your device, the audio jack will need replacing.
If you can only hear audio with headphones plugged in, this may also be a faulty audio jack. Without headphones in, use the volume keys to turn the volume up or down. If the volume symbol has 'Headphones' written above it, its a fault with the audio jack.
Note: The audio jack assembly on iPhone 5 & up is connected to the microphone used during calls and your charging port. If either of these are faulty in addition to your charging port, you need only pay for one.

Microphone
There are three separate microphones on most iPhones. Testing and specifying which one is faulty may save time. A microphone at the bottom of the phone records your voice when you're on a call. If someone can't hear you well on a phone call, this will need replacing. Another microphone positioned next to your camera records audio during video filmed on the rear-facing camera. If the audio is distorted on video playback, this will need replacing. Lastly, a microphone on the front of the phone records audio during video filmed on the front-facing camera. If the audio is distorted on video playback, this will need replacing

Earpiece Speaker
If you can't hear anything when you're on a call, or the sound is distorted or too quiet, an earpiece repair will be required. Use the volume keys during a call to make sure the volume is turned up. Press 'Speaker' during a call to shift the audio output to the loudspeaker. If the loudspeaker sounds as it should, but the earpiece is insufficiently loud, an earpiece repair is required.

Loudspeaker
If you can't hear anything when you're playing music or video, or the sound is distorted or too quiet, a loudspeaker repair will be required. Make sure the volume is turned up when testing the loudspeaker, and compare it to another phone if you're unsure about how loud it should be.

Vibrator
If your device doesn't vibrate when receiving a call, a vibrator repair will be required. Test the vibrator by flicking the mute switch up & down. You can turn vibration on/off for calls & notifications in settings.

Home Button
If your home button has become unresponsive, it can be replaced.
Note: A replacement home button will result in the permanent loss of Touch ID functionality, as the original home button is uniquely coded to match the logic board. You will not be able to use your fingerprint to unlock the screen or use Apple Pay. It is possible that your Touch ID may already be faulty if the home button is not working; but if not; it is up to you to decide which function you would rather have.
