One Very Bloated Battery

by George Lovell | | 0 comments

Removing a bloated battery from an iPad... Sometimes when a battery is damaged or just old, the chemical reaction that usually keeps your battery running breaks down and leaks lithium gas.

iPad batteries are held down by tons of sticky adhesive, and therefore require lots of heat, alcohol & patience to remove safely.

The not-so-water-proof iPhone X - Liquid Damage repair

by George Lovell | | 4 comments

As the photo shows, this phone came in with no other damage, and having never been opened or repaired before. The customer said that the device was merely splashed with some water.
Luckily, we were able to get this one back up and running with a full strip down and thorough cleaning.

The iPhone X and proceeding models, are water-resistant, not waterproof. Its important to consider that these phones can probably be submerged in water when they're straight out the box, but over time as they wear and bend, they can lose their water tight seal.
We always re-apply new adhesive to iPhone X's when we repair them, but it's important to note that they will never again be fully water-resistant once they've been damaged and/or repaired.

iPhone 11 Launch

by George Lovell | | 0 comments

The official launch of the iPhone 11 was yesterday.

Apple announced three new iPhone models; the 11 (the "budget" model), 11 Pro (the premium model) and 11 Pro Max (the slightly bigger premium model). You can find the best summary and comparison of these models here: https://www.techradar.com/uk/news/iphone-11-vs-iphone-11-pro-vs-iphone-11-pro-max-the-new-apple-phones-compared
A significant portion of the launch was dedicated to Apple TV+ and their subscription services. It seems that Apples business model is becoming more focused on tying customers in to their expensive hardware via their subscription services.

The iPhone 11 will be available in the UK for pre-order on September 13th, and officially released on September 20th.
How much will it cost? One of the expected implications of Brexit is the increased price of technology, and this is already reflected in the price of the iPhone 11 series, which will be inflated by approximately £20.00-£50.00.
The iPhone 11 will start at £729.00, the iPhone 11 Pro at £1049.00, and the iPhone 11 Pro Max at £1149.00.

The most expensive option will be the iPhone 11 Pro Max 512GB, which will set you back a mere £1499.00 😅

Raising Money For Great Ormand Street

by George Lovell | | 0 comments

Just put out some delicious and healthy fruit & nut bars for our customers, to try and raise more money for Great Ormand Street Hospital.

We have been collecting money for and donating to Great Ormand Street Hospital for a while. Great Ormand Street Hospital is an infamous paediatric treatment and research centre in central London. Since its formation in 1852, the hospital has been dedicated to providing children with healthcare and to finding new and better ways to treat childhood illnesses. Children that are diagnosed with a serious or terminal illness are often referred to Great Ormand Street Hospital for care.

You can find out more about the hospital and information on how to donate here: https://www.gosh.nhs.uk/
